As we all know, prevention is always preferred but it rarely seems to happen, as we all know, and this is not only in regards to falls but in many aspects of life. As a Physical Therapist I primarily got referrals as to work with patients after they had fallen at least several times. and 50% of these referrals were post-surgery as these patients had sustained a fracture (most often a hip fracture). Many of these falls could have been prevented and it does not require a lot as to do this. Main requirements of course is the willingness of the client and the caregivers as to take the required action as recommended. Permanent or temporary adjustments are often required as to prevent not only falls in the short term but also long term. Again, prevention is always key and the longer one waits, the greater the risk not only for falls but also injury. The amount of sessions required depends on several factors which includes history of falls, type of falls and maybe most of all the clients and caregiver willingness and ability to participate. However, improvement is always possible and at the initial assessment an estimation of sessions required will be provided. Services are provided in the home setting and available in Wrightsville Beach and some parts of Wilmington only Sincerely Kees Verdaasdonk
